So last night I went to see Ted Leo and the Pharmacists for the 2nd time. They were positively amazing this time. He played for nearly two straight hours, even when he left the stage to do that fake end of show + encore thing, he came back on stage almost immediately. Anyway, it was a great night. Time spent with Bryan, Kevin and Erin is always special. Anyway, highlights of the show..Counting Down the Hours, everyone sang along to the beginning and then communally rocked out when the electric guitar and drums kick in, Under the Hedge live...is brilliant, Ted Leo (without the Pharmacists) doing the Golden Finch in the Red Oak Tree was really very beautiful (unfortunately there were inconsiderate people grunting behind me during that gorgeous song), Me and Mia, Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone and The High Party are always a lot of fun, Little Dawn...the repitiion of "It's Alright" for almost a solid 2 minutes is...delightfully comforting. Timorous Me transitioning directly into Walking To Do kicked ass, but I think my favorite was Hearts of Oak, especially at the end when he pointed out that that it was a song about women being empowered. It was great, Ted Leo's been one of my favorite musicians of the past year, and last night totally renewed my enthusiasm...he's such a brilliant guitarist and an intelligent lyricist and he's fun and funny and eloquent (which is much more than I can say for his opening act) on stage.
So anyway, today I think I'm just going to sit around and relax. Later there will be Soul Callibur 3 in my apartment (I can't wait to be reunited with my beloved Voldo) also going to see Picasso at the Lapine Agile in the chat tonight, it's supposed to be really funny and it was written by Steve Martin! Then after the play hopefully there will be more Twin Peaks...and let me just take a minute to say that Twin Peaks may be the greatest thing that's ever happened to television...ever.
